What's Inside
- 12 monthly tabs (Jan–Dec) — each with Planned, Actual, Difference, and Notes columns.
- Year Summary tab — pulls every month's numbers automatically; nothing to maintain there.
- Starter categories — three income lines and eleven expense lines (housing, utilities, groceries, subscriptions, savings, and more), all editable.
- Pre-wired formulas — totals and net update as you type. No SUM to write yourself.
How to Use It
- Download the .xlsx file using the button above.
- In Google Sheets: go to drive.google.com → New → File upload, pick the file, then open it with Google Sheets. Alternatively, inside any spreadsheet use File → Import → Upload.
- In Excel: open the file directly.
- On each month's tab, fill in Planned at the start of the month and Actual as you go.
- Check the Summary tab any time — it totals the year automatically.
Customizing It
- Rename or add categories. Insert new rows above the relevant Total row so the SUM formulas keep catching them.
- The Difference column is Planned minus Actual. For expenses, a positive number means you're under budget; for income, a negative number means you beat the plan.
- New year. Make a copy of the file (File → Make a copy in Sheets, or Save As in Excel) and clear the numbers — categories and formulas carry over.
